Kevin D. Arnold, PhD, ABPP

Chief Operating Officer

My Why

I chose to be a psychologist while still in high school, after taking a course my senior year. I never looked back after that course. I was fortunate to learn about grant writing, the academic version of entrepreneurship, while in graduate school, working on the development of a CBT group therapy for delinquents. I built on those skills, dedicating my professional life to using innovation to apply behavioral psychology to problems in schools, families, and social relationships. But, also as a researcher, I grounded my work in what science tells us, to help others effectively. I capitalized on the business skills my parents and mentors taught me, creating different enterprises, while at the same time, furthering my competencies in CBT, behavioral couples therapy, psychological assessment, family psychology and forensic psychology. Helping others to reach their goals forms the foundation of my career, whether business ventures or clinical work.

Dr. Arnold has a long and storied career as a board-certified Behavioral and Cognitive Psychologist. He was the founder and director of The Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy in Columbus, Ohio, which he sold in 2021.

His clinical work employed cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and applied behavior analysis (ABA) with children, adolescents, and adults. He also led the expansion of integrated behavioral healthcare into primary care offices, including family physicians and pediatricians. He spent the last ten years of his clinical work applying CBT to children and adolescents, both for mental health issues and medical conditions. Dr. Arnold is a leader in the professional practice of, and specialties in, psychology, serving as the President of the Ohio Psychological Association, the Ohio Board of Psychology, the Council of Specialties, the Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology Specialty Council, the American Academy of Behavioral Psychology, and the American Board of Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology. He also served as a Commissioner of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Commission on the Recognition of Specialties and Proficiencies in Professional Psychology and the President of APA Division 42 (the Society of Psychologists in Independent Practice). Dr. Arnold is also a Fellow of APA in multiple divisions.

His operational expertise can be seen in the work he did with the APA as a national speaker on alternative practice business models. He helped develop the use of management service organizations in behavioral health. He is well-regarded in the business of psychology and the education and training of behavioral and CBT providers. To that end, while an administrator and faculty member at The Ohio State University, he directed several federally funded training programs that focused on applying behavioral assessment, functional behavior analysis and applied behavior analysis in schools. Dr. Arnold also served as an auxiliary faculty member in OSU’s Department of Psychiatry, training residents in CBT. He is an author of scholarly articles, book chapters, books, and blogs (PsychologyToday.com “The Older Dad”) and served as a review for Professional Psychology: Research and Practice. He is Alexandra and Connor’s proud father, a WVU freshman, and a sophomore at Ohio University.
