Joyce Carter, LMHC, LCMHC believes that one’s thoughts, feelings, and circumstances do not define us. Although we may not be able to control our outside world, we can control our internal world and live our best lives. Joyce has worked with children, teens, adults, and families who have experienced significant anxiety, depression, and trauma for over 20-years. She helps people to understand we all have the power to re-create ourselves and learn our true self-worth. Using cognitive-based therapy can help one reach their true potential.
Joyce grew up in Richmond Virginia and studied at Virginia Commonwealth University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Art and Dance. She obtained her master’s degree in counseling and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She pursued her Doctorate Degree in Psychology, specifically focusing on the topic of working with helping professionals to prevent burnout, which is so common in the mental health field.
She has worked in residential treatment centers with children, teens, and young adults, private practice as well a providing supervision to licensed and unlicensed therapists. Joyce has also worked as a clinician in school-based programs. She held the job of clinical director with a community based organization before moving to Florida.
Joyce has shared her knowledge and experience with the mental health community. She has provided numerous trainings for organizations in the Sarasota community and schools on mental health topics.
Joyce spends her free time with family and friends, enjoying the beach, running, biking, and reading.
