Joyce Carter, LMHC, LCMHC

Clinician - Florida, North Carolina

My Why

I have spent over two decades providing treatment for anxiety and related disorders in hopes of ensuring individuals can live their lives to the fullest. Anxiety can be crippling, which I know both clinically and personally. Our youth are struggling more than ever and deserve the highest quality and most evidence-based treatment. I believe this is what Lumate offers and am honored to be a part of such a committed and passionate team!

Joyce Carter, LMHC, LCMHC believes that one’s thoughts, feelings, and circumstances do not define us. Although we may not be able to control our outside world, we can control our internal world and live our best lives. Joyce has worked with children, teens, adults, and families who have experienced significant anxiety, depression, and trauma for over 20-years. She helps people to understand we all have the power to re-create ourselves and learn our true self-worth. Using cognitive-based therapy can help one reach their true potential.

Joyce grew up in Richmond Virginia and studied at Virginia Commonwealth University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Art and Dance. She obtained her master’s degree in counseling and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She pursued her Doctorate Degree in Psychology, specifically focusing on the topic of working with helping professionals to prevent burnout, which is so common in the mental health field.

She has worked in residential treatment centers with children, teens, and young adults, private practice as well a providing supervision to licensed and unlicensed therapists. Joyce has also worked as a clinician in school-based programs. She held the job of clinical director with a community based organization before moving to Florida.
